Nicholas Hammond had his film debut at age eleven in Peter Brook’s classic “Lord of the Flies,” and co-starred with Michael Redgrave the same year on Broadway in “The Complaisant Lover.” Since then he has worked continuously in film, television and stage as an actor, and more recently also as a director and writer.
Nicholas Hammond played Friedrich Von Trapp in the 20th Century Fox film “The Sound of Music” and has played major roles in over forty feature films and over a hundred and seventy five television shows. It was while he was starring in a play at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles that the CBS executives looking for an actor to create the role of Peter Parker in their live-action series “The Amazing Spider-Man” spotted Nicholas.
Nicholas Hammond played Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the prime time series, and in the three Spider-Man tele-movies made in New York, Los Angeles and Hong Kong. They were released as feature films internationally, so around the world Nicholas was both the first Peter Parker on television and also in movies.
Nicholas now lives in Australia where he has done numerous plays, mini series and features, as well as a major stage tour of “An Evening with Julie Andrews and Nicholas Hammond,” the two of them sharing their life stories. Nicholas has twice won first prize at the NY International Film and Television festival for his screenplays for miniseries, as well as first prize at the Royal Academy of Television in the UK for his documentary “Climbed Every Mountain with Nicholas Hammond.” As a director he has staged productions of “Girl Crazy,” “She Loves Me,” and “Dear World,” as well as a play he wrote “Lying Cheating Bastard” which has toured nineteen cities and is soon to be seen in Los Angeles.
He is currently working on screenplays for the production companies in the UK, Los Angeles, and Israel.
